Focus on Africa Society
During my visit to rural Ghana in 1993, I took my mother to a health centre for medical attention. I was appalled at what I found — a complete lack of the most elementary requirements for basic health care. There were no drugs, no syringes, no beds, no stretchers, no blankets and no adequate furnishings. Patients carried their own chairs to the hospital if they wanted to sit while waiting in the queue to see the doctor. The buildings and other physical plants were in a total state of disrepair. Only disease, misery and poverty were abundant.
But in the middle of this despair we see we also see hope. With the concerted effort of the world community we can effect change; no matter how small, to help the people in rural communities of Africa.
Focus on Africa Society was started in 1996 to become one of the vehicles to effect this change. We seek to focus attention on health, educational and social development needs of rural Africans. Join us in creating a better future for ourselves and rural Africa.
